NERF CAM ECS-12: Review

Whilst sounding more like an engine part than a toy, the CAM ECS-12 is one of the newest blasters in the NERF range and is also the first ever blaster to feature an integrated camera. With it becoming easier and easier to make and share home videos via the interwebs, this blaster will provide NERFers with the ability to record their antics and share missions and skill shots with their friends through social media.

NERF Zombiestrike Doublestrike - Review

Or: 'the joy of spur of the moment buying'.

First, a confession.

I am not really a huge fan of the NERF Elite Triad. It's only crime? In this reviewer's opinion, it's simply trying to hard. The Triad is a great blaster, but in its efforts to be a multi-shot blaster, it sacrificed its looks. It feels bulky, the priming arm looks like a lizard's tongue and it just doesn't feel as elegant as say, the jolt (which ironically, is the very blaster its trying to improve upon). This review is not to talk about my dislike of the Triad, it is a review of what I firmly believe to be it's replacement. The NERF Zombiestrike Doublestrike.

(*side note, the word 'strike' is being used to death now Hasbro, there are other words meaning 'hit' you know, I've checked.)

Green Cloaks LARP: Review.

Forget 'Come to the dark side, we have cookies', from now on its 'Come to the LARP side, we have smoked ribs and mead.'

Ever since I started attending Sci-Fi LARP events, I have been hearing the same sentence from many different people, granted the wording is different from each, but the focus is the same. "Yeah these guys are good, but its not like The Green Cloaks". I remember asking "what made them so special as opposed to anyone else?" and then it was explained to me. They don't just spend a day or afternoon doing LARP, they spend whole weekends doing so. The second I heard that, I just had to meet them and experience what the system and seeing if it was for me.

Luckily, I was fortunate to be on hand for their 2nd event on the 20th-22nd June and boy am I glad I did!

Zombiestrike Slingfire - Review

When news broke that most of this year's hot releases were available at Amazon.com, I was furious. Not because the US had gotten the jump on everybody. Not because I had been hunting tirelessly for a chance to get my hands on one early. Not even because I had been assured by Hasbro that there would be no 'soft release' this year. I was furious because when I heard the news, I was working, in a field, in the rain, with no internet connection and no way of getting my greasy mits on them.

Alas I had to sit there like a lemon whilst low resolution images of happy people slowly downloaded over my GPRS connection.

Things weren't any better when I got back. All of my feeds were full of more smug people playing with theirs and when I could finally get online I was faced by those three immortal words... OUT OF STOCK! I managed to get some eventually but the important thing is that they aren't here yet!

Fortunately for me, my good friend OldNoob managed to get hold of one and was the first to review it on the BritNerf forum. With his kind permission I have reposted it below.

It may seem like a cheap ploy to write the first new post in ages, and you'd be right.

'Just a Casual War' - Nerf War: Bedfordshire

or: 'How to do a day-out blasting other people right'

To explain the title, when I was asked if I was free on the 25th of May for some NERF blasting (and maybe write a review on said NERF blasting) I naturally jumped at the opportunity. However, when I discussed the 'whens and wheres' with UKNerfWar, he informed me that this was going to be a War, not a LARP event which I was used to.

This being my first 'War', I asked how many people did he think where coming.
"Not many I should think," he replied, "...it'll just be a Casual War."
And I couldn't resist really!

BOOMco. Blasters - Review

With news that Mattel are making a new venture into the world of toy blasters spreading like wildfire across the NIC, I thought it was about time to dispell some of the rumour and speculation and actually get these blasters in hand for a review.

First thing this morning, I went to my local Argos and purchased every BOOMco. blaster they had and I have been playing with them all day. Below you will find an in depth review of the blasters that I purchased.

Brace yourselves. There are some surprises.

Blasterparts MEGA Magnus Upgrade Spring - Review

It isn't every day that you get excited when the postman calls but recently the usual utility bills and take-away menus served to cushion the fall of a large parcel.

My good friends over at Blasterparts sent me a parcel containing some exciting new products. The first of which was their shiny new 7kg MEGA Magnus spring.

BrisWar HvZ - Review

Regular readers will already know that Saturday in Bristol was the epicentre of the Zombie Apocalypse. Having not played HvZ since my days at college (and even then it was socks and boffers) I was eager to attend this war despite the three hour drive to get there.

The war was hosted on the Downs in Bristol. It was organised by my good friend Boff from the BritNerf forum so I already knew this event would be epic. Not only was it the first BritNerf community war of the year but it was also the first ever BritNerf HvZ event. I wasn't going to miss this for the world.

Did any humans make extraction and get out alive? Was I one of them or did I get nommed? Keep reading to find out.

Nerf Zombie Strike Crossfire Bow: Review

So, after some eagle eyed fans spotted a few of the zombie strike range popping up on ebay uk over the last week, I decided to take a punt and buy one of the crossfire bows. I was not disappointed...

Sometimes, Christmas comes at new year :)

NERF Vortex Revonix360 - Review

Or: 'He ain't heavy... he my blaster!' *Harmonica solo*

We all have different opinions about things and some people have opinions which to many, go totally against the norm. A perfect example of this is my Father, who, as a die hard fan of Crystal Palace FC, is convinced that they are a better team than Manchester United. This is not the truth, (sadly, "Come on you Eagles!!") it's just his opinion. My point is, my 'against the norm' opinion is: I am a huge fan of the Vortex series. Before you set fire to anything with my name on it, please hear me out...

NERF: The Ultimate Blaster Book - Review

I don't really read much apart from the odd instruction manual. Even then (like all men) I only do it as a last resort, when I've messed things up or can't figure out where part 'A' goes. But when I heard news that a book about my favourite brand was to be released, I grew quite excited.

Recently, I was contacted the publishers for 'The Ultimate NERF Blaster Book' who offered me the opportunity to review the book, ahead of it's release.

Below is my review of 'NERF: The Ultimate Blaster Book' written by Nathaniel Marunas.

Blastersmiths UK MkIII Drop-leg Holster - Review

Many, many months ago, I was given the pleasure of receiving a pre-production model of Blastersmith UK Ltd's shiny new MkIII Drop-leg holster. Following the success of it's elder brother, the MkII which was designed for the Maverick/Strongarm, the MkIII is designed to keep your clip fed blasters handy for when things go south.

Nerf Elite Barrel Break Review: Why its Great.

"Shot guns? What like guns that fire shot?"
"Oh you must be the brains of the operation! Yes, guns that fire shot."

Vinnie Jones in 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'

The Barrel break has been around for ages, I'm fully aware of this but with NERF running headlong into 'Mega' blasters and grabbing girls by the ponytail, it is far too easy to leave great blasters on the 'Yesterday's News' pile when they still have much to offer. This is one of those reviews. After you read this review. Go and play the PC classic 'Doom II' immediately. If, for some amazing reason you where just playing Doom II then stopped to read this review. Please read it, then go back to playing. For those who dont know what Im talking about. Shame on you. Look it up, download it and play it, you'll thank me.

Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow - Review

I recently saw the new NERF Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow at Hasbro's Christmas in July event last month. It's a nice looking thing but I was a little underwhelmed with it's performance. I was in the middle of writing a review of it when Seiryuu over on the Britnerf forum managed to get his hands on one early from Argos.

His review is pretty good and he also had the chance to open it up and include some internal pics. Find out what Seiryuu thinks after the jump.

NERF Mission App - Review

NERF 'Mission App' iPhone Cradle

We've been hearing about NERF making it's way to the smart phone for a while now. We have already seen the iPhone cradle that is designed to attach to the tactical rail but we have heard nothing of the app that has been developed to support it... Until now!

Dr Strange-Nerf or: How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love the LARP

A while ago I was asked to help write a review for some Nerf LARP organisations. This was no small task as I have little to no knowledge of what Nerf LARP is all about. Knowing that others must feel the same, I wrote this instead. It is a review of the LARP group, 'Big Damn Heroes', but it is also an article for those who want to try Nerf LARP, but do not know where to begin. Enjoy!

Rebelle Guardian Crossbow - Review

After recently purchasing a Rebelle Guardian Crossbow, I found it a difficult blaster to review. Don't get me wrong, I like it, I just cant find the words to describe the way it makes me feel.

What I needed was a representative of the lines target demographic. What I needed was a girl. Then I remembered that my wife is such a creature. She seemed genuinely excited by the blaster so without further ado, I hand you over to Mrs. UKNerfWar for a woman's perspective on the Nerf Rebelle Guardian Crossbow.

I went on the Internet, and I found this...

Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. My name is BritNerfMogul, or at least it is when I'm on the internet talking about Nerf. I been 'nerfing' for just under a decade, and have extensive knowledge of Nerf blasters and modifying them, going so far as to running my own company, Higson Armouries. Recently I became involved in a new LARP event in my local area. The game is known as Dark Tempus, and runs as a Post Apocalypse game play. Set out over 2 days starting on Friday evening and finishing on Sunday afternoon, players were left to roam free, fight off zombie hordes, and try to start a new world in the midsts of staff trying to create distractions, thefts and all out spanner-in-the-works escapades.

LARP Aid 2013

LARP Aid is a three day charity event and for the last 10 years, these guys have been raising money through the LARP community and donating the proceeds to charity. This year’s event was only the 3rd one held in Kent and was in honour of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. This is a charity that is close to my heart so I was keen to go along, check it out and help in any way that I could.

Nerf Vortex Diatron - Review or, 'Double Whammy!' -)DOUBLE WHAMMY(-

"I am the Law!"

Why yes. I am a huge comic book fan. Thank you for asking.

My all time favourite is too hard for me to name on a single blog post. I have to say that 2000AD's Judge Dredd is a huge contender for number one.
Why? because its so different from any other comic of the time. Gritty, violent and yet somehow humorous in places. It had me hooked from the very first time I found a few copies in an old second hand stall in Woolwich Arsenal market (which I foolishly threw away a few years later).
The first move was awful. The latest movie is amazing. But both got one thing right. the weaponry, the Judges' iconic 'Lawgivers'

I wanted one then, and I want one now. Sadly the closest I can find (visually anyway) is the new Nerf Vortex Diatron. And I'm not complaining.
